Chapter 15 Wednesday, 0330 hours (3:30 AM)

Brian spent the night sleeping badly. He dreamed he was a bat; a huge vampire bat flying over the zoo. He swooped down over the African plains habitat and saw a lion feeding. The Brian-bat swooped lower and saw that the lion was ripping apart a human body. Brian flew in to get a better view and saw that the body was Roger's. Then Brian saw Lori. She was clinging to the limb of a tree and screaming. Brian glided down and let Lori climb on to his back. They flew off to Lori's dormitory room at NYU. Brian regained his human form, and the dream turned somewhat more intimate.

Brian woke. He was sweating and breathing heavily.

"God," he said, "There's nothing more gross than a wet dream in a sleeping bag."

He had assumed the dream had woken him up, but it was more likely the gunfire from the repelled invasion of the zoo had.
